Salamander's Sliding Around the Corner
Claudia Helinski's retail and fried chicken operation will be moving on to Front Street.

After 15 years in its current location, Salamanders is heading around the corner to Front Street.
Currently on First Street just north of IGA, the market that holds two indoor seats will be boasting 25 times the capacity at its new spot, in the space at 38 Front St., next to The Market, formerly occupied by Albertson Realty.
Owner Claudia Helinski said she's been looking at property for the past three years, waiting for the perfect location to open up.

"We really stepped into something," she said on Tuesday, noting that she will be able to "fit almost the whole front of our current area into the new bar area."
While the outdoor seating is often full on sunny summer days, "when it rains, we lose our dining room."

Helinski hopes to be open on Front Street by the beginning of June, and the foray into a fuller dining experience won't be her first. Prior to Salamander's operation on First Street, she ran Salamander's Café for six years in the space that currently holds Billy's By the Bay.
For one year, both were in operation at the same time, though no plans are in place to run both again, as the 2,000-square foot space should have enough room for her retail operation.
Helinski plans on putting a bar in as well – which would be just as good for breakfast as it would be for dinner. Though with the summer season fast-approaching, how exactly the menu ends up in the final form depends in part on the help she can find, she said.
