Sept. 22: Five Things To Do This Weekend

The North Fork will be brimming with homecoming games, live music and Maritime Festival activities this weekend.

From space music to a maritime party and high school homecoming games, there's way too much to do this weekend:

on the theremin this Friday evening at 8:30 at the Custer Observatory in Southold as part of Custer's 33rd annual star-gazing jamboree. Along with the theremin, a musical instrument that is operated by waving one's hands in front of two antennae, Peters will be performing on other uniquely designed electronic instruments. kicks off for the 22nd year in a row at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the opening day parade, led by well-known Greenporters starting at 11 a.m. and winding through downtown. The festival will feature classic wooden boats, kayak and dory boat races and plenty of vendors — including North Fork Patch (come say hello!).

Before the Southold boys' soccer team takes on Pierson for its homecoming game on Saturday, the school will host an alumni soccer game at 11 a.m. with students young and old kicking the ball around. from last year of this ever-popular community competition. 

is a fundraiser for the happening on Saturday at 2 p.m. on the museum grounds in Mattituck. Take in an afternoon of croquet, chamber music, light fare and local wine for only $25.

Polish off the weekend with a nice run or walk on Sunday at 11 a.m. through 200 acres of scenic vineyards during peak harvest season, all for a good cause. Kent Animal Shelter hosts the event at the Riverhead winery, where participants are invited to bring a canine friend along on a leash. Registration is $25.
