Southold Schools Host 1st Annual 'Heroes Day' Celebration
The day's festivities will commence with a parade on Oaklawn Avenue Thursday in Southold.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Southold Elementary School students are set to honor the heroes who serve tirelessly to keep communities safe.
Southold Elementary School will present its 1st Annual Heroes Day Celebration on Thursday, May 23, beginning at 9 a.m. The event is not open to the public, only to invited guests, the district said.
"This special event is designed to honor and celebrate the brave men and women who serve as police officers, firefighters, corrections officers, and emergency medical service heroes across Long Island and New York City," the district said.

The day's festivities will take place at Southold Elementary School, located at 420 Oaklawn Avenue.
Festivities will commence with a parade on Oaklawn Avenue starting at 9 a.m., followed by a ceremony and interactive stations that will engage the entire school community. The parade will also include Southold High School students and staff, as well as heroes marching alongside them. The Southold Police Department's aviation unit will do a flyover at the school at 9:30 a.m.

The formal ceremony will recognize the contributions and sacrifices of local heroes. And, at interactive stations, students will have the opportunity to engage with various first responder teams, including a dive and rescue team, an aviation unit, a K-9 unit, a firemen's obstacle course, an EMS station, a police command center, and a drone and ATV response unit.
Events will conclude at noon.
