Southold Town Delivers Meals, Groceries, Medications To Seniors

Southold Town stopped serving in-person meals early March to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among at-risk seniors.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Southold Town Senior Services is providing meal, grocery and medication delivery for seniors amid the new coronavirus pandemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control, older adults are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

In many online communications, the Southold Town Director of Human Resources and Senior Center Karen McLaughlin encouraged seniors to remain at home. For residents 60 years of age and older, no-contact home delivery is available.

Hot meals can be delivered on weekdays, with frozen meals provided for the weekend. Those needing meals should contact McLaughlin at (631) 298-4460.

Meals were regularly served in the town's senior center up until early March when officials worried congregating groups would be at risk for contracting the virus.

"Meals for the homebound, however, will continue to be provided," Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said back in March. "Protocol has been put in place that will protect, to the greatest extent possible, those who rely on this much-needed service."

As of Wednesday morning, Suffolk County has 16,901 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Southold currently has 46 of those cases.
