CENTERPORT, NY — Maggie's Mission and Corey's Promise, two cancer charities based in the Huntington area, are teaming up for a blood drive scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 12 in Centerport, the organizations announced.

The drive is slated for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 in the community room of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, at 53 Prospect Road, Centerport.

"Help us save lives in honor of Corey Phelan and Maggie Schmidt, two Harborfields students who tragically lost their lives to pediatric cancer," the flyer reads.

One donation can save up to three lives, according to the charities, which are organizing the drive for the New York Blood Center.

More than one million people each year are diagnosed with cancer for the first time, the charities wrote. Patients fighting cancer need more blood than patients fighting any other disease, using nearly one-quarter of the nation's blood supply, they wrote.
