3 Rescued After Sailboat Overturns In Long Island Sound

BREAKING: The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

A father, son and a teenage girl were rescued from a sailboat that overturned in the Long Island Sound on Sunday afternoon.

According to authorities, the sailboat capsized about three-quarters of a mile off Asharoken Beach around 2:15 p.m. Marine Bureau officers arrived to the scene and pulled the boat occupants aboard the vessel.

Officers brought the 16-year-old girl, a 58-year-old man, his 24-year-old son and their boat to shore.

All three sailboat occupants were wearing life jackets. No injuries were reported.
