5 Elwood Senior Athletes Sign For College Sports

The John Glenn HS senior athletes signed national letters of intent on May 25 to continue their playing careers in college.

ELWOOD, NY — Five Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior athletes signed national letters of intent on May 25 to continue their playing careers in college, the Elwood School District announced.

  • Gabby Andreacchi: basketball for St. Joseph’s University in Brooklyn.
  • Shannon McGrath: volleyball for Union College in Schenectady.
  • Shayna Purow: volleyball for Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
  • Anthony Schieble: baseball for DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
  • Christian Szokoli: football for Hartwick College in Oneonta.

“Thanks to our student-athletes for being role models and performing to the best of their abilities within the classroom and on the field,” Principal Carisa Burzynski said via news release.

Held in the school’s gymnasium, the event was hosted by Athletic Director David Shanahan and attended by family members, who applauded with pride as each student was introduced.

“Your four-year careers here have been excellent and being recruited to play in college is outstanding,” Shanahan told the students.
