Arrest Log: DWI, Obstruction Of Breathing, Harassment

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

At 10:10 a.m., two 20-year-old Commack men were issued field appearance tickets for unlawful possession of marijuana after police say they were sitting in a Honda parked on Beach Avenue when an officer noticed the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When questioned, one of the men said "we were smoking weed." A small quantity of a green leafy material field tested positive for marijuana.

At 12:35 a.m., an 18-year-old East Nothport man was arrested after he was found to possess a quantity of concentrated cannabis on Catherine Street. He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

At 12:55 a.m., Michael Sawyer, 42, of Centerport, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he was pulled over for an unsafe lane change on Fort Salonga Road.

Friday, Sept. 14

At 8 a.m., a 43-year-old Northport man was arrested after police received a report he grabbed a woman's hair, pulled it and slammed her head into a pillow, which obstructed her breathing on Whispering Fields Drive. The woman said she was unable to breathe and talk. He was arrested for second-degree harassment and criminal obstruction of breathing.

Sunday, Sept. 16

At 7:50 p.m., a 21-year-old East Northport woman was arrested for second-degree harassment on Main Street.

At 8:03 p.m., Michael Stravo, 53, of Northport, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicate and aggravated DWI after police say he was involved in a vehicle collision on Woodbine Avenue.
