Chip City Cookies Coming To Northport: 'We Never Skimp On Quality'
CEO Peter Phillips says seeing his cookies bring smiles to customers' faces is "really, really rewarding."

NORTHPORT, NY — Chip City, a growing craft cookie brand, is coming to Northport.
The confections shop is set to open at 1945 Jericho Turnpike and is targeting July.
Chip City was founded by childhood friends Peter Phillips and Teddy Gailas in Astoria, Queens, in 2017. Phillips, the CEO, and Gailas, the chief brand officer, have since expanded Chip City across New York City, New Jersey, and onto Long Island. Northport and Merrick will join Oceanside and Garden City.

The quality of the cookies is what makes Chip City stand out, Phillips said. The company prides itself on using the best ingredients, butters and chocolates.
"We never skimp on quality," Phillips, 35, told Patch. "We have unique offerings and flavors. We have over 50 flavors with a menu that rotates every week."

Chip City flavors include classics like chocolate chip, chocolate peanut butter, and cookies n' cream, as well as spins such as s'mores, Nutella sea salt, brookie, confetti, and more.
Northport fits the family-friendly market that Chip City is fostering, Phillips said. Though he feels his cookies speak to everyone.
Seeing customers eat his cookies, especially when they don't know Phillips is the CEO, is one of his favorite parts of his line of work.
"To see how the cookie brings a smile to their face, it’s a really, really rewarding part of the job," he said.
The other joy-driver for Phillips is seeing his employees find success.
"We’ve had so many people who have started at entry level positions. To see them grow and see how many people this company supports now. To be responsible for that and help facilitate that is a great joy in my life."
Chip City employs around 200 people currently, but the company is growing rapidly. Phillips anticipates having 400 staffers on board by the end of 2023.
Phillips said the old adage, "if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life," applies to him.
"Absolutely. I feel very blessed to be in the position I’m in," he said. "It’s been a great experience for me."
Phillips leveraged his previous experience in construction and real estate, while running the company taught him a lot of new skill sets.
"I’m very grateful for the opportunity. It challenges me every day. I wake up every day looking forward coming to work."
Chip City also plans locations in Huntington and North Babylon, but there are currently no estimated opening dates. Phillips anticipates Long Island has space for another three or four locations after those, as well.
While Chip City has grown quickly, Phillips said it could have grown faster, but the company controls all of its own manufacturing processes from its 18,000-square-foot Queens facility. The company makes its own cookie dough in-house.
"That’s one of the reasons why we’re able to hold our quality to such high standards; because we monitor the whole process start to finish," he said. "We continue to innovate with new flavors constantly."
Chip City currently has 18 stores; not including Northport or Merrick. The cookie co. plans to have 35 locations open by the end of this year. Then, 100 storefronts is the target by the end of 2024.
The business also has a nationwide shipping program through Goldbelly.
