Crab Meadow Beach To Be Renamed For Former Town Supervisor
Former supervisor Frank P. Petrone preserved the Crab Meadow Beach coastal wetland system and watershed. The public is invited to attend.

NORTHPORT, NY — Crab Meadow Beach is set to be renamed in honor of Frank P. Petrone, a former Town of Huntington supervisor, the township announced.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 14, at Crab Meadow Beach, located on Waterside Avenue in Northport.
Petrone served as town supervisor from 1994 through 2017. During his record 24-year administration, Petrone was instrumental in the preservation of both the Crab Meadow Beach coastal wetland system and Crab Meadow Watershed, according to the town.

The town board unanimously approved a resolution to rename Crab Meadow Beach at its July 12 meeting. At the same meeting, the board also voted unanimously to accept the Crab Meadow Hydrology Study and Stewardship Plan, which outlines strategies to maintain and enhance local watershed resources and educate the public on watershed preservation.
The beach will not be the first Crab Meadow property to be renamed for a former town supervisor.

Crab Meadow Golf Course was posthumously renamed in honor of Robert J. Flynn, another former supervisor of the Town of Huntington, in August 2021. Flynn died of cancer at the age of 91 on Oct. 26, 2013, according to Newsday.
