Weapon Possession, Injured Deer, Suspicious Calls
Some of the incidents Northport Police responded to recently.

Here are some of the incidents Northport Police responded to recently. None of the defendants has been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges listed below.
Arrests
- A Huntington Station man was arrested on a warrant and processed and released on $60 cash bail to return to Northport Village Court on Dec. 15.
- A Northport man, 17, was arrested for curfew violation at parks and beaches, public intoxication and unlawful possession of marijuana, on Dec. 11.
- A Northport man, 21, was arrested on Dec. 10 for fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police say he was found to be in possession of a “gravity knife” after he was pulled over by the officer for a traffic violation.
- An East Northport man, 24, was arrested for second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and equipment with tinted windows on Dec. 8.
- A 22-year-old Amityville man was arrested for fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, equipment with a tinted window, on Dec. 8. No additional information was immediately available.

- Police responded to the report of a car on Locust Road disabled in a large body of water, caused by the weather conditions on Dec. 9. The car was occupied by its owner. Class A towing was contacted, responded and removed the vehicle. Police stood by until the water receded and cleared the storm drains.
- Police responded to a report of a loose dog on Main Street on Dec. 9. Police arrived and took custody of the dog, a medium sized brown poodle. Police canvassed the area but was not able to find the owner. Police transported the dog to North Shore Veterinary Hospital, which took custody of the dog until the Town of Huntington responded to the Veterinary Hospital tomorrow to transport the dog to the pound. Later that day, a woman contacted police to say she was caring for the dog while the owner was away. She retrieved the dog at North Shore Veterinary Hospital.
- Police responded to a Main Street location for the report of the smell of something burning on Dec. 9. Upon arrival with Northport Fire, it was determined the smell was coming from an electrical issue with the water heater. Northport Fire disconnected the water heater and deemed the area safe for occupation.
- Police responded to a call on Clipper Drive for a report of an injured deer on Dec. 10. Police arrived to find the deer had an apparent fractured front leg and other injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. The animal was euthanized and Northport Highway Department was notified to remove and dispose of the animal.
- Police responded to a call on Mar Kan Drive for a report of a suspicious phone call on Dec. 10. The resident stated that an unknown person called and left a message stating he was from the IRS and that there would be a warrant out for the resident’s arrest for tax fraud. Police confirmed that this was an attempt to scam the resident out of money. The resident stated he would notify the phone carrier to have the number blocked in the future. No money was exchanged and no contact was made between the two parties.
