'Dementia Conversations' Event Slated For East Northport
The program provides tips for families needing to address difficult topics around dementia.
EAST NORTHPORT, NY — "Dementia Conversations," an event focused on helping families navigate the difficult discussions around dementia, is coming to East Northport.
The event, hosted by the Long Island Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church Outreach Meeting Room. The space is accessible to wheelchairs.
"Often, conversations with family about changing behaviors can be challenging and uncomfortable," the Long Island chapter of the Alzheimer's Association wrote. "This program provides tips for families to address some of the most common issues that are difficult to discuss.

Common issues that will be discussed include going to a doctor for a diagnosis, deciding when to stop driving and making legal and financial plans for future care.
"When someone is showing signs of dementia, it is important for a family to address the changes that are happening to your loved one," said Alaina Nathan, program manager for the Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Chapter. "We are here to provide the Long Island community the resources that you need to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia."
