East Northport Student at Presidential Debate

Joe Flangan, a Northport High School Class of 2012 graduate, took part in one of the great political moments in his young life as a volunteer at the second Presidential Debate at Hofstra University Tuesday.

"This debate is one of the key points in the election," said the Hofstra sophomore. "You have Mitt Romney who made a name for himself at the last debate and now you have what happened after the last vice presidential debate."

Flanagan, 18, accompanied attendees on one of the many shuttles to Hofstra University's North Campus where the debate will be held at 9 p.m. tonight. He was not able to get into the building where the debate is held because it is under tight security restrictions, he said, but will be nearby sitting in on his political science professor's radio show.

Flanagan received enough college credit from advanced courses to begin his college career as a sophomore at Hofstra University. He is currently studying political science and is contemplating a minor in business.

"I think it's very important to add how proud Hofstra students as well as everyone from the Tri-State area should be of this event," he said. "This is really a key point in our country's history."
