"They didn't follow the mark outs we give them telling them where everything is and I guess they just kept pounding," he said, "probably assuming it was a boulder."
Suffolk Water Authority crews are on scene and doing the repairs.
Original Story
An Asharoken Avenue water main was reportedly ruptured early Monday afternoon, according to Asharoken Police, cutting off water to Eatons Neck and Asharoken residents.
Police Chief Ray Madhesian said Suffolk County Water Authority repair crews are working on the breakage as of 4:30 p.m. An Eatons Neck resident reported that construction crews accidentally ruptured the water main, though this could not be confirmed with the police department.
Chief Madhesian did not know when the repairs would be completed and water turned on. Suffolk County Water Authority could not be reached by phone.
Emergency breakages can be reported to the Suffolk County Water Authority at 631-665-0663.
