FedEx Truck Crashes Into Utility Pole, Stores Lose Power

The driver was required to stay in the truck until utility workers determined it was safe for him to exit.

A driver crashed a FedEx truck into a utility pole in Northport Friday afternoon, officials said.

No one was injured in the crash that knocked down the utility pole on Woodside Ave north of Main Street, but many businesses lost power. The Utility pole and transformers blocked the street.

According to the Northport Fire Department, the driver "was instructed to remain in the cab of the truck until the utility workers determined the power was off and it was safe to exit the vehicle."

The Northport Police Department and Village Highway Department assisted with traffic control. Electric power to many of the businesses on Main Street was lost.
