NORTHPORT, NY — This week’s featured cat from the Northport Cat Rescue Association is Bello, a handsome 2-year-old orange tabby with a gentle nature and an affectionate personality.

Bello was left behind when his family moved away, forcing him to roam the neighborhood in search of food and shelter. He was eventually noticed by a woman who stepped in and brought him to safety, where he is now under the care of Northport Cat Rescue Association.

Bello is approximately 2 years old and is FIV positive. FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, affects only cats and is difficult to transmit. It is most commonly spread through deep puncture wounds, such as those that occur between unneutered outdoor tomcats, and in rare cases from a mother cat to her kittens. FIV cannot be transmitted to humans, dogs, or other pets, and cats with FIV can live long, happy, love-filled lives, either as the only cat in the home or alongside other feline companions.

According to the rescue, everyone who meets Bello quickly falls in love. Despite being abandoned, he is described as gentle, grateful, and incredibly affectionate. Volunteers say it is often difficult to get a still photograph of him because he constantly rubs up against people whenever they are nearby. Bello is currently staying in the rescue’s habitats at Petco Huntington, where he happily accepts attention from anyone willing to stop and say hello.

Bello is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, litter box-trained, microchipped, FELV negative, and FIV positive. He is looking for a safe, loving home where he can finally settle in and return the affection he so freely gives.
