The club helps support the Key Club of Northport High School with scholarships and expenses for events that occur throughout the year, Doherty said. The club also plans to give out $4,100 in scholarships to three Northport High School students attending college and trade schools.
"The praise that our members get from the community shows in the increase in the numbers of our membership," he said. "Whether is is playing golf in our outing, buying $50 50/50 raffle tickets at our Winter Raffle or even buying our famous sausage pepper and onion hero at our Cow Harbor Day Barbeque, the community support helps us to able to give so much back to those in need. I can't thank those who support us enough. I am a lucky person to lead a group of dedicated Kiwanians. Life has been good to me, which I can never forget. Anyone that would be interested in joining this wonderful club only needs to come to the Northport Yacht Club on any Wednesday throughout the year at 11:45 a.m. and say 'hello.'"
