Northport Man Critically Injured in Crash

47-year-old crashed into divider in Hauppauge Sunday.

Douglas Caldwell, 47, of Layne Way, Northport, was critically injured after he lost control of his 2005 Nissan in Hauppauge early Sunday morning, say Suffolk Police.

Witnesses reported seeing a 2005 Nissan traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge at 4:10 a.m. when the vehicle lost control and entered the center divider. The vehicle struck a tree, overturned and crashed. Officers and witnesses attempted to pull Caldwell out of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. Firefighters from the Commack Fire Department responded and pulled him from the car.

He is currently in critical condition at Stony Brook Hospital.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
