Photos: Northport Marches on Memorial Day
Annual Memorial Day Parade draws patriotic crowd and enthusiastic marchers down Main Street Monday.
Northport Mayor George Doll showed his range as grand marshall of the annual Northport Memorial Day parade Monday morning. He led the procession from Laurel Avenue down Main Street riding a mammoth white horse.
Following close behind were military veterans dating to World War II, several age groups of the Boys and Girls Scouts, marching band and fire trucks from Eatons Neck and Northport.
“We had a huge amount of people here and it was a wonderful event,” said Ron Matuza, 69, of Centerport, an Army veteran and commander of American Legion Post 694. “It’s great to be a patriot. I feel tingly all over today.”

Sunshine and a patriotic crowd kept the energy high. The event wrapped up at with several wreaths laid on markers honoring veterans of American conflicts, capped by a boat slipping flowers into Northport Harbor.
