Northport PD Blotter: Memorial Plaque Missing; Deer Dies In Crash
ALSO: A petty theft was reported at CVS; police helped corral a loose dog; and a moving truck driver was issued a summons, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 15 through April 21.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- A Verizon wire went down on Burt Avenue on April 15. Police notified someone to take care of it.
- Police were called to Park Street on April 15 for a report of a knocked over fireplace screen. Police spoke with the caller's son who said the fireplace screen was knocked over by their robot vacuum after reviewing indoor surveillance.
- A moving truck was stuck on a hill on Bayview Avenue on April 16. The truck's rear gate got caught on the roadway as it turned onto Stanton Street. The truck operator eventually lifted the gate hung up on the roadway allowing the truck to move freely. Police determined through a check of the DMV that the driver was driving with a suspended license and was issued a traffic summons.
- A dog got loose on Scudder Avenue on April 17. Police officers corralled the dog until the owner came. The owner was told to better secure the dog and was warned a second incident would lead to a summons.
- A man told police on April 17 he may have lost his wallet at Harbor Freight Tools outside of Northport Village. Police told him he should cancel any credit cards that might be in his wallet.
- Someone found a lost wallet and turned it in to police headquarters on April 19.
- A petty theft was reported at CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road on April 20.
- Someone reported a suspicious package to police on April 20. Police found a heavily damaged empty suitcase.
- A vehicle hit a deer on Waterside Avenue on April 21. Police spoke with the driver who said she was driving with her son southbound on Waterside Avenue when a deer ran across the road in front of her vehicle, causing her to collide with the deer. The deer was killed, and the woman's car sustained front end damage. The Northport Highway Department was notified to remove the deer.
- A man reported a park bench plaque went missing at Northport Village Park on April 21. The plaque that was attached to the memorial park bench he had arranged for his late wife was missing, he told police. The man said that the last time he saw the plaque was April 16, when it was still attached to the bench. He said he already contacted the village personnel responsible for procuring the benches and plaques and wanted to document the incident. Police responded to the bench to investigate and found no signs of forced removal and could not find the missing plaque in the area.
