Northport Police Blotter: 2 Dogs Left In Hot Car, Man Issued Ticket
ALSO: Firearms surrendered; sweater initially stolen but later paid for; and man found laying on sidewalk, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 19 through Aug. 25.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- A vehicle crashed into a telephone pole on Fort Salonga Road on Aug. 19. Northport police were aided by Suffolk officers.
- Police were called to Bohemiac Boutique on Aug. 19 for a report of a petty larceny. An employee said that a woman walked out of the store with an unpaid blue sweater in her bag and wished to pursue charges. The store owner spoke with the detective on Aug. 20 and said she no longer wanted to press charges as the woman paid for the sweater over the phone with her credit card.
- Two people in a red van were reportedly illegally dumping garbage in village dumpsters in Municipal Lot #3 on Aug. 21.
- Someone surrendered an airgun and other assorted gun parts to police headquarters on Aug. 22.
- Police were called to a Fort Salonga Road business on Aug. 23 for a reported scam. A woman said that at 10:15 a.m., she was contacted at her place of employment by a man she doesn't know claiming to be a sheriff with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office. The man told her that she was scheduled to be at the court house that morning at 8 a.m. and never showed up. The man asked the woman to verify her home address and phone number. The man told the woman that officers were on their way now to pick her up from work. The woman said she never received any notifications for court or any phone calls to be there. The officer contacted the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office and spoke with a deputy from the investigations bureau who said that she would look into the incident.
- A summons was issued to someone who caused a wake because they were speeding in their boat on Northport Harbor on Aug. 23.
- A man was found laying on the sidewalk of Elwood Road on Aug. 23. Northport police officers waited for Suffolk police officers to arrive.
- Police were called to Mariners Lane on Aug. 25 by a woman who wanted to surrender her father's firearm. She told police her father, who recently died, was a former NYPD officer and she wanted to surrender his firearm. Police retrieved a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum, as well as five Glock .380 magazines from the caller ,and placed them in the gun locker for safekeeping.
- An appearance ticket was issued to a man who left dogs in a hot car on Woodbine Avenue on Aug. 25. A caller told police she saw two white dogs locked in a 2013 Gray Toyota. The woman said she heard someone say that the dogs have been in the car for about 20 minutes before she called police. The officer gained entry into the vehicle and opened the doors to allow ventilation. The vehicle's owner returned and said, "The dogs have only been in the car for about an hour." The officer issued an appearance ticket instead of an arrest.
