Northport Police Blotter: $30K Scam; Man Arrested

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 21 through April 27.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Mykyta Lebedyev, 27, of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny in connection with a theft that occurred on Bayview Avenue at 9:10 a.m. April 21, Northport police said. A woman was contacted by an unknown person claiming to be a Treasury Department agent, police said. The caller told the woman that she owed $30K, police said. Lebedyev responded to the woman's home and was given the $30K in cash, police said. The woman became suspicious when she was contacted again saying she owed more money, and she called 911, police said. Northport detectives identified a suspect's vehicle and driver, police said. The woman was able to identify Lebedyev from a photo array, and Northport detectives responded to his home in Brooklyn and placed him under arrest, police said.
Incidents
- A petty theft was reported at Northport Library on April 21, police said.
- A large boat was found taking on water at Scudder Park on April 22. The caller notified the Coast Guard and a Northport officer notified the Town of Huntington Harbormaster, who stated they have been aware of the vessel. The officer was unable to determine any registration numbers on the vessel to determine the owner at this time.
- A woman struck a deer with her car in the Town of Huntington, causing damage to her car, she told Northport police on April 22.
- Someone found a lost iPhone on Main Street on April 24. An officer contacted the woman who owns the iPhone, and she went to pick it up.
- A man was issued a traffic summons instead of being arrested after police said he left the scene of an incident involving property damage on Spencer Way on April 25.
