Northport Police Blotter: $5K CVS Theft Leads To 2 Arrests

ALSO: Driver crashes into Dunkin' Donuts; man drove with suspended license; phone scam reported; and more, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from July 28 through Aug. 4.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Giorgi Omanashvili, 47, of Brooklyn, was arrested at Kings County Criminal Court on July 30 after a grand larceny investigation, Northport police said. Omanashvili was seen on camera at CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road leaving the store with $5,091.13 in store merchandise, police said. Omanashvili was charged with third-degree grand larceny. He was arraigned in Northport Village and released on his own recognizance.
  • Shalva Gogritchiani, 33, of Brooklyn, was arrested at Kings County Criminal Court on July 30 after a grand larceny investigation, Northport police said. Incidents

  • A man demanded he be let inside a room at The Northport Hotel on July 28. The man was intoxicated and a friend of a guest staying at the hotel, police said. The man's friend was downtown at a bar and not with the man, so the hotel staff would not allow the man access to the hotel room. The officer got the key to the room from the man's friend, who did not wish for him to stay with her anymore and escorted him to retrieve his property from the room. The man left and said he would walk home to calm down.
  • A man arrested the week before in connection with driving while intoxicated was issued additional appearance tickets on July 29 for again driving his motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and operating his motor vehicle with a suspended registration, police said. The officer removed the New York State license plates from the vehicle and returned them to NYS DMV. The vehicle was towed from the scene at the man's expense.
  • A dog got loose on Oak Street on July 30, but police could not find the dog.
  • Police were called to Harbour Point Drive on July 31 for a report of an unknown animal in the water. En employee from the marine rescue center told police that they are tracking a dolphin that was in the area and there was no help required.
  • Someone crashed into a Dunkin' Donuts on Fort Salonga Road on July 31. Northport police waited until enough Suffolk police officers arrived.
  • A Woodbine Avenue woman reported a phone scam on Aug. 1. A woman said she got a call from a man calling on behalf of Publisher's Clearinghouse claiming that they will pay off her credit card. The man arranged for a bank transfer to her credit card which showed at a credit to her credit card balance. At this point the woman realized that it may have been a scam and called police. She did not lose any money. Police told her to contact her bank and credit card company and inform them of the incident, as well as freeze her credit.
  • A woman reported a potential scam to police. She said on the morning of Aug. 2, two women she didn't know approached her mother's house to ask about a couch for sale which they saw on Facebook Marketplace. The two women showed the woman a listing on Facebook Marketplace showing the Seaview Terrace address as the pickup location. The woman explained to the women that there was no such item for sale and that it appeared to be a scam. An officer assured the woman that the listing appeared to be a scam and to contact the department if any further unusual activity occurs.
  • A Locust Road man's mailbox was found on the ground on Aug. 3. The man told police his mailbox was attached to the post late Aug. 2 but was found knocked down by unknown means the next morning. No damage was done to nearby properties, police said.
  • A Hollacher Drive resident was asked to turn down loud music during a party at 9:10 p.m. Aug. 3. The homeowner agreed to lower it.
