Northport Police Blotter: Dark Web Fraud Scare; Man Reports Scam
ALSO: A man refused to get out of an Uber in what turned out to be a misunderstanding; group found trespassing on boat, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Sept. 30 through Oct. 6.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- A trespass affidavit was served to a Fleet Court man on Sept. 30 who kept walking on his neighbor's property while it was under construction.
- A man went to police headquarters to report a possible online scam on Oct. 1. The man said he was attempting to apply for a new job online with a company based out of New Jersey. The man said he sent back a signed contract and a copy of his driver's license to the company for employment. On the morning of Sept. 30, the man said he received multiple texts requesting banking information from an unknown person. He realized it was a scam and stopped all contact. The man did not suffer any financial loss and was advised to keep an eye on his bank accounts.
- A man went to police headquarters on Oct. 2 to report possible fraud. He told police he received a letter in the mail claiming his Social Security Number was being used on the dark web. The man said that he needed a police report to document a legal record of theft in case there is fraud associated with his Social Security Number. The man had not lost money at the time of the report, police said.
- A group of young people were reportedly jumping off the Village Dock and trying to smoke cigars on someone's boat on Oct. 2. Officers spoke with the group, which said they only wanted to take a picture on the boat and didn't realize anyone was on it. The group was warned and admonished to stay off any boats tied to the dock.
- A purse was found on Laurel Avenue on Oct. 3. The woman's boyfriend retrieved it from the police.
- A motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian was reported on Church Street on Oct. 3. Northport officers remained until Suffolk police arrived.
- A group of youths was reportedly throwing rocks at a bees nest in Cow Harbor Park on Oct. 4. The kids had left by the time police arrived. The Northport Highway Department was notified to spray the nest in the morning.
- Police were called to Norwood Avenue on Oct. 6 for a report of a man refusing to get out of an Uber. Police determined the man gave the Uber driver the wrong address. The man agreed to get out of the Uber and order a new one.
