Northport Police Blotter: Deers Euthanized; Dead Turkey Found On Road

One deer was fatally struck by a car; one deer broke its leg after getting stuck in a fence; and a third deer was found injured, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Nov. 11 through Nov. 17.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A deer was fatally struck by a car on Ocean Avenue on Nov. 11. The carcass was moved to the side of the road, and the highway department was called to remove it.
  • A woman was banned from Northport Liquor & Wine Inc. on Nov. 12. She was told she would be arrested if she returned to the store.
  • Police asked someone to stop construction work at James Street Market for the night at around 10:30 p.m. Nov. 13.
  • A drunken man was refusing to leave Gunther's Tap Room on Nov. 15. The man agreed to leave when an officer spoke with him.
  • A dog was found without a leash on Duffy Court on Nov. 15. The officer could not find the owner in the area. The dog was taken to North Shore Veterinarian Hospital in an attempt to contact the owner, but the inserted chip was not yet registered. Veterinary staff said they would hold the dog until arrangements are made with the local shelter. The owner was contacted and told they could pick the dog up at the Huntington Animal Shelter.
  • A deer got stuck in a fence on Hawkins Drive on Nov. 15. The deer, which police said had an "obvious broken leg," was euthanized and removed from the fence. The highway department was notified for disposal. A Hawkins Avenue homeowner was notified of damage to his fence caused by the deer.
  • Police were called to Husco Gas Station for a report of a gas station attendant pumping fuel while on his cell phone on Nov. 16. The officer observed no violations or hazards.
  • A dead turkey was found on the side of the road on Waterside Avenue on Nov. 17. The turkey was disposed of.
  • A dead rat was found on the sidewalk of Main Street on Nov. 17. The rat was disposed of.
  • An injured deer was found on June Avenue on Nov. 17. An officer euthanized the deer and notified the highway department to remove it.
