Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Driver Crossed Double-Yellow Line Several Times

ALSO: "Reckless" motorcyclist wanted for questioning; a deer stuck in a fence was euthanized; and woman loses wallet, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 24 through June 30.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Michael Giambruno, 43, of Medford, was seen driving a 2017 Dodge Challenger on Fort Salonga Road when he crossed over the double-yellow line several times around 8:15 p.m. June 24, police said. Giambruno was stopped, and police said his breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and his speech was slurred. Giambruno performed poorly on several standardized field sobriety tests, police said. Giambruno was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI and unsafe lane change.

Incidents

  • An injured deer was stuck in a fence by Ocean Avenue School on June 24. Officers were able to free the deer, but because of injuries it suffered, police said they had to euthanize the deer near the fence. The Northport Village Highway Department disposed of the carcass.
  • A woman called police to Porpoise Court on June 24 to report an aggressive dog charging at her dog. The woman said that while walking her dog, another woman was walking two dogs across the street when one of them slipped from her grasp. The complainant states the dog, which appeared to be a pit bull, immediately charged at her dog and would not leave until the walker was able to regain control. Neither the woman or her dog were bit or injured as a result, police said. The woman asked that police speak with the dog walker about walking two dogs at a time.
  • Police officers doused a barbecue fire on Douglas Avenue on June 25.
  • Rodents were found in the basement of a Hillside Avenue home on June 26. Police told the caller to hire an exterminator.
  • A road rage incident was reported on June 26. The man said a woman was driving a gray Cadillac SUV when she exited Highland Avenue, heading north on Ocean Avenue, when she nearly collided with the man, who was traveling south on Ocean Avenue. The man said the woman looked determined to collide with him if he didn't move out of the way. Police told the man that they will look out for the vehicle in the future.
  • A man on a black motorcycle was driving recklessly on Highland Avenue on June 26. An officer saw the motorcyclist turn left onto Maple Circle from Highland Avenue, police said. The officer followed the motorcycle onto Maple Circle where it made a u-turn back onto Highland Avenue and then southbound on Ocean Avenue, police said. Officers saw the motorcyclist driving recklessly throughout the village, committing multiple vehicle and traffic law violations and then was last seen crossing Fort Salonga Road southbound onto Laurel Road, police said. Police do not know if the motorcycle was registered, as there was no plate seen on it, police said. Police are seeking the public's help finding the motorcyclist.

  • A boat was partially filled with rainwater in Woodbine Marina on June 27. An officer pumped out enough water so the boat would not sink.
  • Two garden hoses with a nozzle and sprinkler were reported missing from a home on June 28.
  • A man reported he had a physical altercation with his girlfriend at the Kings Park bluffs on June 28.
  • Police were called to Giunta's Meat Farm on June 28 for a report of groceries being taken. An officer interviewed a Giunta's staff member who said a man was trying to leave the store without paying for all of his groceries that were not scanned for purchase. The officer made contact with the man on Asharoken Avenue. The man told police he was trying to make two separate purchases, but was unable to complete the transaction because the staff thought he was attempting to steal the other half of his items. He said he became frustrated and left all items in the store and left.
  • A Doris Avenue resident overdosed on alcohol on June 28. Northport Rescue brought them to Huntington Hospital.
  • A sick raccoon was euthanized by police on Fort Salonga Road on June 29.
  • The State Liquor Authority performed checks at Northport Yacht Club, Martoni Gourmet, Cork Tree Fine Wines, Feed and Grain, Brew Cheese, Sand City Brewing, The Purple Elephant, The Ritz Cafe, Country Beer and Beverage, The Wine Cellar on Main, Northport Shipwreck Diner, Giunta's Meat Farm, Port to Port Wines, Piezano's of Northport, CVS Pharmacy, and Rockin' Fish, all on June 29. No violations were observed at any business.
  • A car's passenger side door was damaged by a fallen tree limb on Ocean Avenue on June 29. The limb appeared to have fallen from a village-owned tree, police said.
  • A Laurel Avenue woman believes she lost her wallet and was receiving texts from her bank stating that her bank cards were being charged for various amounts. An officer told the woman to cancel the charges and lock all accounts to prevent monetary losses. The woman did not lose any money at the time of her report. The woman thinks she may have left her wallet at a self check-out stand at a CVS in Center Moriches. Police told the woman to contact the Suffolk County Police Department' 7th Precinct for a further investigation.
  • A raccoon got into a Seaview Avenue home on June 30 but left through a window.
  • A loose dog was found in the road on Woodbine Avenue on June 30. A woman said she almost hit the dog with her vehicle while driving down Woodbine Avenue. As the officer was speaking with the woman, the owner of the dog arrived. The owner was issued a field appearance ticket for a loose dog.
  • A woman was highly intoxicated on Bayview Avenue on June 30. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A Waterside Avenue building caught fire on June 30. Northport police remained until Suffolk police officers arrived.
