Northport Police Blotter: Man Arrested After Fleeing Police Officer

ALSO: Check stolen and altered; group of kids disturbs CVS customers; kids on bikes weaving in traffic; dead opossum; and more, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 14 through April 20.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A utility pole was found leaning over the Easy Rider Discount Tire building on Fort Salonga Road on April 14. A utility pole that the safety cable had broken off, causing the pole to lean significantly over the building, an officer said. PSEG Long Island was notified to fix the support cable.
  • A Bayview Avenue woman reported lost or stolen jewelry on April 14.
  • Employees of Northport Village Laundromat were concerned for a woman who was in the bathroom for an extended period of time and was not responding to employees' calls around 7:40 a.m. April 15. The woman had fallen asleep inside the restroom and did not need any help.
  • A dead opossum was found in the window well of a Whispering Fields Drive home on April 15.
  • Multiple small sailboats had capsized in the harbor near Bayview Avenue because of high winds on April 15. Several youths were in the water. With the assistance of the Centerport Yacht Club, all youths were removed from the water without incident and released to their parents.
  • A woman's credit card got stuck in a parking meter on Main Street on April 17. Officers were able to remove the credit card from the meter.
  • Multiple youths were reported on the roof of Laurel Avenue School on April 17. An officer helped the youths off the roof and admonished them for their activity. Their parents were called to take them home.
  • A white vehicle was blocking the roadway on Main Street on April 18. When an officer arrived, they saw the vehicle driving away with its hazard lights on. The officer performed a traffic stop on the driver, who said he was just getting ice cream. The officer found the driver to be operating with a suspended NYS driver's license. The officer issued a summons to the driver.
  • Someone was bit by a loose dog on Scudder Avenue on April 18. Northport Rescue brought the person to Huntington Hospital.
  • A man was issued traffic tickets instead of being arrested for driving a motor vehicle without a license on Laurel Avenue around 11 a.m. April 19, police said.
  • A large group of youths was riding bicycles through traffic on Woodbine Avenue on April 19. Police escorted the bikers out of the village.
  • A man was arrested in connection with unlawfully fleeing from a police officer in a motor vehicle on Fort Salonga Road on April 19.
  • A Highland Avenue resident visited police headquarters on April 20 to report that a check he had sent in the mail to the United States Treasury Department had been altered and was attempted to be cashed in the name of an unknown person. The man was contacted by Citi Bank and put a stop payment order on the check. At this time, the man has not sustained any financial loss.
  • A dog got loose on Cherry Street on April 20. Police searched but could not find the dog.
  • A group of kids was disturbing customers at CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road on April 20. An officer found the kids and admonished them.
