- Police were called to Constitution Square on Shore Road for a marine incident around 7:10 p.m. June 13. A Northport Harbor dock master said Andrew Mekalainas, 37, of Cold Spring Harbor, was operating a 1985 Fly Bridge boat that was trying to pull into the dock while using excessive speed and collided with four pylons, causing damage, police said. An officer watched Mekalainas operate the boat, as he was still attempting to dock, police said. The officer interviewed Mekalainas, whose breath smelled of alcohol, his speech was slurred and sluggish, and his eyes were bloodshot, police said. The officer tried to administer field sobriety tests, which Mekalainas performed poorly on, police said. Mekalainas was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated: BAC reading and reckless operation of a vessel.
