Northport Police Blotter: Man Hits Vehicle, Drives Away

ALSO: Potential fraud reported; officer settles argument between ride share driver and woman; and good Samaritan returns wallet, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Dec. 2 through Dec. 8.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A Maple Avenue resident went to police headquarters on Dec. 2 to report a possible fraud. The man said he was contacted by a collection agency stating that he owed $3,000 for an apartment rental in his name located in Dallas. The man told the agency that he never rented such an apartment. The man has not suffered any financial loss and hasn't noticed any unusual credit activity, he told police. The officer told the man to contact the major credit bureaus to monitor his credit activity.
  • Police responded to The Northport Hotel for a report of an argument between a woman and a car service driver on Dec. 2. The woman told police she took a car service from JFK Airport to the Northport Hotel. When they arrived, the driver told the woman that the cost of the ride was $300 when the woman thought it was $100. The woman said the driver became "verbally aggressive" when she said she wouldn't pay the $300. Both parties agreed to a $100 ride payment and both parties went their separate ways, police said.
  • Landscapers were reportedly dumping yard debris onto a Waterside Avenue resident's property on Dec. 3. An officer warned and admonished the employee of the landscaping company about dumping debris onto the neighbor's property.
  • Police were called to Prospect Avenue for a report of an elderly man who kicked his dog on Dec. 3. Police could not find the man or dog in the area.
  • A man was issued a summons instead of an arrest for leaving the scene of an incident
    after police said he was found to have hit a vehicle with his vehicle and leave without notifying the owner or police on Alley Road on Dec. 4.
  • Someone found a wallet with an NYPD shield and retired ID near the Northport Library on Dec. 5 and turned it over to a Northport police officer. The wallet was sent to New York Police Department at One Police Plaza.
  • A business owner said another business was dumping concrete into his company's dumpsters on Woodbine Avenue on Dec. 7.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a grey Ford SUV blocking a fire lane in Municipal Lot #7 on Woodside Avenue on Dec. 7.
  • Landscapers working on Norwood Avenue were told they were violating village code by using blowers on a Sunday on Dec. 8. The landscapers agreed to leave.
  • Landscapers working on the corner of Ocean Avenue and Main Street were told they were violating village code by working on a Sunday on Dec. 8. The landscapers agreed to leave.
