Northport Police Blotter: Man Reports $6.9K In Fraudulent Charges

ALSO: Woman reports scam attempt where caller used AI to sound like her daughter; graffiti reported in park; and more, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 12 through May 18.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Loose pills were found in the Woodbine Marina Lot on May 12 and disposed of.
  • Graffiti was reported on the outside of the restroom and on the parking lot next to the restrooms of Woodbine Marina on May 12.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a blue Mercedes parked in a no-parking zone on Scudder Avenue on May 12.
  • A woman reported a scam caller on May 12. The woman said that a phone number she recognized to be a Northwell phone number called, and it was an AI-generated call of her daughter asking for help.
  • A man went to police headquarters on May 13 to document fraudulent activity on his checking account between 7 p.m. May 12 and 9 a.m. May 13. The man said he noticed four separate charges, totaling $6,942.38, posted on his Bank of America checking account. The man said he contacted Bank of America, disputed the charges, and a hold was put on his account. A new debit card was issued. The man said he is in the process of working with the Bank of America Fraud Department to recover the charges.
  • A tree fell, blocking the road of Franklin Street, on May 15. The Northport Highway Department removed the tree.
  • Someone reported what they thought was a dead deer on the side of Valley Avenue on May 16. When officers arrived, they found the deer was alive, and it ran off into the woods.
  • A vehicle fire was reported on Dolphin Lane on May 16.
  • A woman was reportedly yelling in the road on Main Street on May 17. Police found a woman who was intoxicated and bleeding from her knees. The woman said she fell in a bush. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • Gas was reported stolen from Seymour's Boat Yard on May 17.
  • A tree fell on Waterside Road on May 17. The Northport Highway Department removed the tree.
  • A man was ticketed in connection with drinking alcohol and littering on Laurel Avenue on May 18.
  • An injured deer was reported on Main Street on May 18. Police determined the deer was just laying down and not hurt.
  • A dead possum was found in the road of Ocean Avenue on May 18 and removed.
