Northport Police Blotter: Man Sideswipes Truck, Drives Away

The truck driver caught up to the man and blocked his car, police say. ALSO: A woman reported losing her wallet at Stop & Shop, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Feb. 10 through Feb. 16.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Police were called to Norwood Avenue for a report of an abandoned vehicle on Feb. 10. When police arrived, the vehicle had been pushed out of the garage and onto the side of the road by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department after it evicted several residents. All attempts to contact the vehicle's owner were unsuccessful, as the owner has moved out of the country. Rescue Towing was called to tow the vehicle to its impound yard. The plates of the vehicle were removed and sent back to the NYS DMV Office.
  • A woman went to police headquarters on Feb. 12 to report a missing necklace. The owner said the last time she saw the necklace was around the middle of May 2024 at a wedding in Italy. She said she is not certain if the necklace ever made it back to her home and does not believe anyone who was inside of her home stole it. The woman asked to file a report for lost property to give to her insurance company.
  • A woman went to police headquarters to report her wallet missing on Feb. 12. She said the last place she saw her wallet was at Stop & Shop earlier that day, and she had not been able to find it. The woman said she canceled her credit cards, and at this time, nobody has tried to use them.
  • A man was issued a uniform traffic ticket instead of being arrested after he left the scene of a crash on Woodbine Avenue on Feb. 13. A man was sitting in his truck, which was legally parked on Woodbine Avenue, when a man sideswiped his truck, breaking his driver's side mirror, police said. The man who sideswiped the truck then drove off without stopping to exchange information, police said. The truck owner caught up with the sideswiper on Main Street and cut in front of his vehicle to prevent him from leaving, police said. The sideswiper was ticketed, police said.
  • Someone told police that a group of youths was throwing snowballs at a Northwest Drive home on Feb. 15. Police searched but could not find the kids.
  • Someone told police that a group of youths was throwing snowballs at a Stanton Street home on Feb. 15. Police found the group and warned and admonished the kids about their behavior. They agreed to leave the area.
