Northport Police Blotter: Man Throws Beer Can At Car, Resists Arrest
ALSO: Reckless motorbike operator flees cops; flare gun stolen from boat; ice cream falls onto vehicle; heart necklace found, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 11 through Aug. 17.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Someone reported damage to a deck post and window on Maple Avenue on Aug. 11.
- An officer found $600 worth of motion picture money in the roadway on Bayview Avenue on Aug. 11.
- Someone found an iPhone and turned it into police headquarters on Aug. 11. The phone's owner came to retrieve it.
- While on patrol, an officer tried to stop the operator of an unregistered motorbike on Beach Avenue on Aug. 12. The operator drove northbound onto Woodbine Avenue then eastbound onto Main Street, police said. The officer terminated the chase because of high traffic in the area. The motorbike was last seen southbound on Church Street. The operator was described by police as a younger man in a grey t-shirt and black helmet on a black motorbike. The operator was accompanied by another younger male with a black shirt and black helmet on an electric bicycle, police said.
- Police were called to Burr Avenue on Aug. 12 after someone complained that a man was putting cayenne pepper on the sidewalk to keep dogs away from his yard. An officer contacted the homeowner, who said he would clean the cayenne pepper off the sidewalk.
- An officer on patrol was driving behind a white box truck around 10:15 a.m. Aug. 12 when the side door opened up, causing a tub of ice cream to fall out of the truck and splash onto a parked vehicle. There was no damage to the parked vehicle, and the truck driver cleaned the ice cream off of it. Police left a message with the vehicle's owner.
- An "irate" man threw a can of beer at a car on Fort Salonga Road on Aug. 12, police said. The back window of the vehicle was damaged, police said. When officers tried to apprehend the man, he refused to put his hands behind his back and tried to flee, police said. The man was eventually arrested, police said.
- A possible email scam was reported around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 12, police said. The man told police he owns an anxiety treatment facility in Huntington and he received an e-mail from who he thought was an employee of his asking him to update her bank account information to a new routing and account number for the upcoming pay period. The man contacted his employee and determined the e-mail was not sent by her and believes her e-mail may have been hacked. At this time, the caller did not sustain any financial loss.
- A man reported that someone broke a lock on his boat and stole a flare gun sometime before 3:15 p.m. Aug. 12, police said.
- A vehicle fire was reported on Fort Salonga Road on Aug. 14. An officer saw heavy smoke coming from the vehicle. When the officer asked the driver to get out of the car, she was "very uncooperative" and told the officer she was not going to do anything she was asked to do. The driver did not want any further help from the officer and refused to speak further to the officer. The Northport Fire Department chief arrived and attempted to speak with the driver to investigate the issue with her car, but she declined and left the area.
- Police were called to Maple Circle on Aug. 14 for a report of teens going in and out of their vehicles yelling at each other. An officer found the youths, who were warned and admonished.
- A petty theft was reported at a Main Street business on Aug. 14, police said.
- Someone found a gold colored heart necklace on Aug. 15 and turned it into police headquarters. Police placed the necklace in the temporary bin.
- A sick raccoon was reported on Ocean Avenue on Aug. 15. An officer euthanized the raccoon and disposed of it. An officer tried to contact the Suffolk Office of Environmental Conservation but could not get through.
- Someone found a dog on Bayview Avenue on Aug. 17 and informed police. The officer secured the dog and called its owner, who retrieved their pet.
- A motor vehicle crash was reported on Harbor Circle on Aug. 17. Northport police helped Suffolk police deal with the crash.
