Northport Police Blotter: Man Thwarts Phone Scam
The scammer tried to tell him his daughter was arrested after a car crash, police say. ALSO: An injured dog was found in the roadway.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 29 through May 5.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- An elderly man fainted at Quality Medical Fitness on April 29. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
- A Main Street man reported a phone scam to police on April 29. He said a person he didn't know called him and told him that his daughter had been in an accident and was arrested and needed $10,000 cash for bail and lawyer fees, police said. The man recognized the call as a scam, confirmed with his daughter that she was OK, and called police to report the scam.
- A dog got loose on Bluff Point Road on May 1. Police found the dog and reunited it with its owner.
- An injured dog was found in the roadway of Burt Avenue on May 2. Officers brought the dog to North Shore Veterinary Hospital to try and find the owner.
- An unleashed dog was running around near Ocean Avenue School on May 3. Police spoke with the owner who said he was just running his dog in the empty field. Police told the owner it was a village code violation to have his dog unleashed. The owner immediately leashed his dog and said he would find a dog park in the future.
- A caller reported hearing "multiple gunshots" near Harbor Point Road around 10:30 p.m. May 3. Police found nothing in the area.
- Police were called to Giunta's parking lot for a report of a woman pulling on car doors on May 5. She was gone when police arrived.
