Northport Police Blotter: Officers Save Man's Life With CPR, Defibrillator

ALSO: Man drove while on drugs; engine stolen off boat; dog falls ill after walk in the park; washing machine dumped illegally, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 30 through July 6.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • An officer rescued a deer stuck in a fence on Hawkins Drive on June 30.
  • A boat owner was issued a summons on June 30 because the registration on the vessel had expired in March 2022.
  • A woman was walking her dog at Constitution Square between noon and 5 p.m. June 30 when her dog became ill, possibly after ingesting an unknown substance, police said. The woman brought her dog to the veterinarian shortly after.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a vehicle that was blocking a driveway on Main Street on June 30.
  • A ticket was issued to a driver for speeding on Sea Cove Road on June 30.
  • A transformer caught fire on Burr Avenue on July 1, prompting PSEG Long Island to deal with it.
  • A man illegally dumped a washing machine from his grey Ford van on village property on Beach Avenue on July 1. An officer told the man to remove the washing machine or he would be issued a summons. The man agreed to remove the washing machine.
  • An injured deer was reported on Hawkins Drive on July 1. The property owner told police that he wanted to contact a rescue to try to save the deer.
  • A Carll Court resident reported a Snapchat scam on July 1.
  • An elderly man was reportedly unresponsive on Salt Aire Place on July 3. Police found the man in cardiac arrest and started CPR. Officers used an automated external defibrillator to deliver two shocks, which returned a pulse. The man eventually began breathing on his own. Northport Rescue brought the man to Huntington Hospital.
  • An engine was stolen off a man's boat sometime between May 26 and July 3, police said.
  • A man suffered a head injury after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Highland Avenue on July 3. Northport Rescue brought the man to Huntington Hospital.
  • A man was arrested after he drove while impaired by drugs near Waterside Avenue and Hill Street around 12:20 a.m. July 4, police said. The man crashed into a telephone pole and a parked vehicle, police said.
  • Two people were reportedly fighting on Main Street around 2 p.m. July 4, police said. One man refused to give his name and said he was lawfully protesting. The man eventually left the area without further incident, police said.
  • Someone found a wallet and keys and turned them into the Northport Village Police Department Headquarters on July 4. An officer was unable to make contact with the owner.
  • A man was looking into vehicles on Cherry Street on July 4. The man told an officer he was "just admiring a vehicle."
  • A woman told police that fireworks were going off in the area of a farm on Burt Avenue on the night of July 4. The woman said she believes fireworks were very close to the farm, which is a fire hazard and dangerous.
  • A woman retrieved her lost wallet on July 5 after someone found it and turned it into police headquarters.
  • A low hanging wire, which caused a hazard, was reported on Waterside Avenue on July 5.
