Northport Police Blotter: Porch Pirate Arrested
The man was accused of stealing packages from two homes in the span of a couple of weeks, police say. ALSO: Stolen plate reported.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Dec. 9 through Dec. 15.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Nicolas Cabrera, 32, of the Bronx, stole a package off a Norwood Avenue home's front porch on Dec. 11, police said. The man whose property was stolen told police that the thief was wearing all grey and fled east on Oak Street, and that Cabrera dropped his personal cellphone while fleeing, police said. Cabrera was found on Burr Avenue, police said. The stolen package was found in plain view on the front passenger seat of Cabrera's vehicle, police said. Cabrera was also found to have stolen an iPhone 16 pro from a porch on Oak Street on Nov. 29, police said. He was arrested and charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny: value of property more than $1,000.
Incidents
- An officer was advised of a suspicious vehicle driving slowly eastbound on Main Street around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 9. An officer found the vehicle at the intersection of Church and Main streets and tried to perform a traffic stop, but the vehicle took off southbound on Laurel Avenue at a high rate of speed, police said.
- An officer stopped a vehicle for a stolen plate hit out of the NYPD on Ocean Avenue around 1:45 p.m. Dec. 9. One plate was reported stolen on Nov. 30 out of the NYPD's 13th precinct and the other was never surrendered. An officer spoke with SIXT rent-a-car and advised them to surrender the plate ASAP. An officer also spoke with the 13th precinct staff member and advised him to have the hit removed until the second plate is surrendered to the DMV.
- A tree fell on Ocean Avenue and damaged a street sign on Dec. 11. The Northport Highway Department was notified to clear the tree and fix the sign.
- A summons was issued to the driver of a grey vehicle parked in a no-parking zone on Main Street on Dec. 13.
- A faulty appliance caused smoke in a Scudder Avenue home on Dec. 14. The Northport Fire Department advised the homeowner to replace the appliance.
- Someone reported a drone flying in the area of Sea Cove Road at 5:39 p.m. Dec. 14, but an officer instead observed what seemed to be a star in the sky.
