Northport Police Blotter: Possible Giunta's Shoplifting Bid Thwarted
ALSO: Man ticketed in connection with driving with a suspended license; and electronic benefits transfer fraud reported, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 13 through Jan. 19.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- A man found low-hanging wires blocking the entrance to his Bayview Avenue driveway and garage on Jan. 14. Officers helped the man raise the wires momentarily so he could move his vehicles. Verizon was asked to repair the wires.
- An injured deer was reported on Waterside Avenue around 7:51 Jan. 15. The deer ran off into the woods.
- A man driving a 2007 Nissan with front end damage and an inoperative brake light was issued uniform traffic tickets instead of being arrested in connection with driving while his license had been suspended or revoked six times.
- A parking summons was issued to the owner of a silver Toyota blocking a woman from getting out of a parking space on Main Street on Jan. 17. The officer helped the woman move her vehicle.
- Someone reported a dead goose stuck in a fence on Norwood Avenue on Jan. 18. The officer could not find the goose.
- Someone anonymously reported a "child holding a rifle" in a Woodbine Avenue backyard on Jan. 19. The officer found the mother, who said her son was using his Daisy #25 4.5 mm B-B gun to shoot targets in the yard, and that she was watching him through a window inside the home. The officer told the parent that the use of air rifles in the village is prohibited on any public street or public place and that "moving forward, even if in their yard, her son should be accompanied by an adult for his safety and the safety of others."
- Police were called to Giunta's Meat Farm on Fort Salonga Road for a possible shoplifter in the store on Jan. 19. The business owner told police that there was an unknown man in the store who has previously shoplifted from other Giunta's Meat Farms who they were still trying to identify. The owner said the man was seen grabbing multiple items and putting them into a tote bag as he had done in the past before leaving without paying. Before the man left the store, the owner confronted him, stating he knew what he was doing, and the police were called. The man said he was waiting for his wife to send him money electronically for the purchase. After an extended period of the time, the man decided to leave the store without purchasing any items.
- Police were called to Lisa Drive on Jan. 19 for a report of an electronic benefits transfer fraud.A woman said she saw several unauthorized charges at several Illinois locations, as well as New Jersey. The officer told her to contact the state EBT office as soon as possible.
