Northport Police Blotter: Reckless Driver Ticketed; Real Estate Sign Vandalized

ALSO: Tree falls into roadway, causing property damage; two loose dogs rescued this week; and kayak overturns, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from July 28 through Aug. 3.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A motor vehicle crash was reported on Fort Salonga Road around 9:20 a.m. July 29. Northport police waited for aid from Suffolk police.
  • A dog got loose on Church Street on July 30. Police helped reunite the dog with its owner.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a white Subaru parked in a church spot on Union Place on July 31.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a grey vehicle parked in a church spot on Union Place on Aug. 1.
  • A driver was issued tickets instead of being arrested for reckless driving on Fort Salonga Road around 11 p.m. Aug. 1.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a blue Tesla who parked their car in two spots on Woodbine Avenue on Aug. 2.
  • A 15-year-old girl fainted on Fort Salonga Road on Aug. 2. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A boat bumped into another boat in the waters near Constitution Square around 6:15 p.m. Aug. 2. A boat was backing up and hit a dock piling, causing scuff marks. The second boat, which was unoccupied, sustained no damage, police said.
  • A loose dog was found on Highland Avenue on Aug. 2. Police searched but could not find the dog. Someone found the dog and brought it to the Northport Police Department. A photo was posted on the department's social media pages in hopes of finding the owner, as there was no contact information on the dog's collar. The owner went to headquarters to retrieve their dog approximately an hour later.
  • A tree fell into the roadway of Woodbine Avenue around 8:45 p.m. Aug. 2, causing damage to multiple vehicles, police said. The tree also damaged a fence along the roadway. No injuries were reported, the department said. A tree limb fell onto a property, but police were unable to determine if the tree is village or private property at the time of the report.
  • A kayak overturned near Waterside Road around 9 a.m. Aug. 3. Northport police called Suffolk police for aid.
  • A real estate sign was vandalized on Lewis Road on Aug. 3. An officer interviewed someone, who said the bottom half of the sign had been knocked off.
