Northport Police Blotter: Northport Officers Catch Suspect Wanted By SCPD For Grand Theft

ALSO: Snake found in apartment; chickens get loose; woman saved through CPR and defibrillator; racing motorcyclists; and more, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 26 through June 1.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A fire alarm was set off at a local business on School Street on May 26 because someone was vaping in the bathroom.
  • Northport officers found someone who was wanted by Suffolk County Police Department Second Precinct in connection with a fourth-degree grand larceny near Reservoir Avenue and Fort Salonga Road on May 27, police said. The person was detained until Suffolk police arrived and took custody.
  • An officer removed a six-foot piece of lumber from the water that was causing a hazard to navigation in the harbor on May 28.
  • Police were called to School Street for a report of a woman choking on May 30. When police arrived, the woman was unconscious, not breathing, and CPR was already in progress. Officers assisted in CPR and applied an automated external defibrillator, which advised no shock but appeared to show a pulse. The Northport Rescue Paramedic resumed care. Northport Rescue brought the woman to Huntington Hospital.
  • A snake got loose inside of an apartment on Main Street on May 31. Officers were able to safely catch the snake and contact a reptile rehabilitation service to pick up the animal.
  • A Hickory Place man reported on May 31 his NYS trailer license plate had been removed from his trailer sometime over the winter. A larceny affidavit was filled out. The owner was told to respond to the DMV to report the plate missing and then to go back to police headquarters to enter the plate into e-justice.
  • Several chickens got loose in the area of Church and Main streets on May 31. Police searched but could not find the chickens.
  • A summons was issued to the owner of a vehicle that was blocking a driveway on Main Street on June 1.
  • Motorcyclists were racing in the area of Steers Avenue on June 1. An officer issued the motorcyclists traffic tickets.
  • A driver was operating a vehicle on Ocean Avenue and Locust Road with an expired inspection sticker on June 1, police said. The driver was issued tickets instead of being arrested, police said.
  • A drunken youth was reported on Constitution Square on June 1. The teenager needed medical assistance, police said. Northport Rescue brought the teenager to Huntington Hospital, and the parents were notified.
