Northport Police Blotter: Swatting Hoax; Woman Thwarts Scam Attempt
ALSO: Woman reports scam; woman reports possible credit card fraud; boat begins sinking in harbor; and more, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from March 31 through April 6.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- A man was having a diabetic emergency on Main Street on April 8. Northport Rescue brought him to Huntington Hospital.
- Police were called to Waterside Avenue on April 8 for a report of an identity theft. The resident told police that an unknown person gained access to her phone account. The resident did not sustain any monetary loss. The woman was advised to contact her credit monitoring companies, Social Security administration, and to freeze her credit.
- A woman was at Northport Library when a man passed her and gave her the middle finger on April 8. The woman told police she does not know the man but was upset by the hand gesture.
- A sailboat broke loose from its mooring on Woodbine Avenue on April 8 and was being pushed up onto land. The boat's owner was notified.
- Someone surrendered ammunition to the police department on April 10.
- A woman went to the police department to report a scam through a phone call on April 10. The woman said she received text messages and phone call from a man she does not know. The man said he was calling on behalf of Citi Bank regarding outstanding credit card fees in the amount of $4K. The woman said she believed this might be a scam and blocked the phone number.
- Police were called to Cherry Street on April 10 for a man who claimed he shot his wife and dog. Northport and Suffolk police officers responded and determined it was a "swatting hoax."
- A pole support cable was hit by a truck on Fort Salonga Road on April 11. PSEG Long Island was notified to repair it.
- Police were called to Reservoir Avenue on April 11 for a report of credit card fraud. An officer interviewed the woman, who said that a gambling website withdrew funds from her account without her authorization. She contacted her bank and canceled the card. The woman said she did not sustain any financial loss, as the bank was able to recover and return all of the funds.
- A boat began sinking in Northport Harbor on April 13. An officer found the vessel under
water that was located on a mooring in the harbor. The Huntington Harbor Master came to handle the issue. - A group of kids was laying down in the middle of the street on Burr Avenue on April 13. An officer found the group, and they agreed to be quiet and go inside.
