Northport Police Blotter: Woman Thwarts Phone Scam

ALSO: Chickens found in middle of the road; officer saves rabbit tangled in lacrosse net; ring stuck on woman's finger; more, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from June 9 through June 15.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Police were called to Whispering Fields Drive on June 10 for a report of an injured rabbit. The rabbit was tangled in a lacrosse net. An officer freed the rabbit.
  • Police were called to Scudder Avenue for a report of a phone scam on June 11. A woman said she received a phone call at approximately 9:07 am from someone claiming to be a police officer. The "officer" told the woman her daughter was involved in a motor vehicle crash, injuring a pregnant mother of the other vehicle and was arrested. The woman said the "officer" requested $15K for her daughter's bail and that she will receive a call shortly from legal aide. The woman soon after received a call from another subject claiming to be a legal aide attorney out of Texas and while talking with him, the "aide" was very was inconsistent with the incident report. The woman believed that she was being scammed and confirmed that her daughter was well and not involved in a crash.
  • A summons was issued to the driver of a black Mercedes in a church parking spot on June 12.
  • Chickens were found in the middle of the road on Main Street around 6:30 p.m. June 13. Officers contacted the owner of the chickens to retrieve them.
  • Someone brought a black Airsoft gun into police headquarters on June 13 to be destroyed.
  • A ring was stuck on a woman's finger on June 13. Police responded to Main Street to remove the ring.
  • Police were called to Fort Salonga Road for a report of a woman asking people for rides on June 14. Officers brought her to the Northport Train Station.
  • A driver's side mirror cap was knocked off a vehicle in a hit and run on June 14. An officer helped the woman place the cap back on her vehicle.
