Northport Police Blotter: Woman Ticketed For Hit-And-Run Causing Property Damage

ALSO: Bat flies into Northport home; and man receives threats on social media, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 27 through Feb. 2.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A woman was issued multiple traffic citations instead of being arrested in connection with leaving the scene of a crash causing property damage at Constitution Square on Church Street around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 26, police said. The woman backed into a man's vehicle, causing damage to his passenger side bumper and tail light, police said. The woman drove out of the lot, using the entrance as an exit, police said. The woman was ticketed on charges of leaving the scene of an incident, fail to obey traffic control device, and unsafe backing on Jan. 27.
  • An injured deer was reported on Waterside Avenue on Jan. 28. Police found the injured deer in the woods, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police was sent in to "handle," police said.
  • A potentially sick raccoon found in a window well on Norwood Avenue on Jan. 29 ran off into the woods.
  • Police were called to a Northport home on Jan. 29 for a report of a threat over emails from an unknown sender. The undersigned officer spoke with the man, who stated he was talking to an unknown user on TikTok. The user stated that if the caller did not send him money, they would publicly release photos of the caller. The man said that he would call the police department again if he felt the threat was credible. The man called back on Jan. 30 after the TikTok user threatened him with photo leaks again. Police told the man to block the TikTok user and avoid any further contact, which he agreed to do.
  • A bat got into a Seaview Avenue home on Jan. 30. Officers were able to remove the bat without incident.
  • A motorist got stuck on an icy hill on Chestnut Circle on Feb. 2. The driver was able to park the vehicle on the side of the road until the roads were safe to drive and had been treated with sand and salt.
