Northport Police Report: DWI, Controlled Substance Arrests

The following was taken from the Northport Police Department crime blotter. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are presumed innocent until and if proven guilty in a court of law.

• Jane Fontaine, 43, of Northport was arrested on Nov. 30 and charged with DWI, No/Expired Insurance, refusing a pre screen test, and leaving the scene of an incident after she allegedly hit a parked car on Main Street. Police allegedly observed a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, her speech was slurred, she was very unsteady afoot, and she performed poorly on the administered standardized field sobriety tests. She reportedly refused to submit to a pre screen device in the field and was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she also refused to submit to a chemical breath test and was processed for DWI. 

• Steven Marshall, 32, of Northport was arrested on Dec. 3 and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation, operation of a motor vehicle by unlicensed, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle after he allegedly was observed driving with an expired registration on Fort Salonga Road. Marshall was allegedly unable to produce a valid driver's license and after an investigation was found to have a suspended (4 on 1) New York driver's license. Police say he further admitted to possessing two Vicodin pills and four Adderall pills without a prescription. He was processed and released on $50 bail.

• An intoxicated man was reportedly riding around with an Asplundh tree trimming crew from Tennessee on Nov. 25. A Scudder Ave. woman told police that they parked her truck in her driveway and she asked them to move their vehicle. They complied, however, she said that one of the subject's appeared intoxicated. Police re-contacted the woman who stated that the intoxicated man did not get into the driver's seat of the vehicle, they later located a white, GMC Asplundh vehicle, bearing Tennessee registration 6h14459, and confirmed that the intoxicated man was not the driver of the vehicle.

• A seagull on Nautilus Ave. was euthanized on Nov. 27 after it was reported injured.

• Police responded to a report of "an animal in a box" on Beach Ave. on Dec. 4. Police checked the area and found a deceased cat.
