Northport Police Report: Unlicensed Driving; Complaints

The following was taken from the Northport Police Department crime blotter. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are presumed innocent until, and if, proven guilty in a court of law.

• Edwin Navarett, 23, of Brentwood was arrested on Feb. 20 and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, interlock ignition device required, illegally tinted windows, and operation of a motor vehicle without a license. Police pulled Navarett over on Fort Salonga Road for driving with illegally tinted windows. After performing a DMV license check, police determined that Navarett's driver's license was revoked three times (three or more speeding violations in 18 months, driving with .08 percent or more alcohol in blood, and for failure to pay child support) and requires an interlock device to which the above vehicle did not have.

• A Franklin Street man approached a police officer on patrol Feb. 17 and said he has three complaints that he wants documented. The first complainant was regarding a tree on his property which had a branch fall to the ground. The second complaint was regarding four chocolate TastyKakes that the complainant found in his backyard. The complainant feels that it is an unknown employee of King Kullen that threw the cakes over his fence. The third complaint was regarding the snow plows that cleared the snow in the King Kullen parking lot after the blizzard. The complainant stated when the snow plows were clearing the snow from the parking lot, they were making a lot of noise which disturbed him.

• Police responded to a report of a possible attempted burglary on Feb 17. Upon arrival, undersigned officer interviewed the caller who stated that while she was home, her house alarm went off and as she looked out the window saw a male subject walking down the road with a flash light in his hand. Male subject was stopped and interviewed who stated he has been walking around the neighborhood looking for his cat. Undersigned officers conducted a walk through of the callers home and found that a basement door that was connected to the alarm system was blown open due to high winds. The rest of the home was found to be in order with no signs of any break in.

• While on patrol, a police officer discovered a possible water main break on Ocean Ave. SCWA responded.

• Police responded to the above location to investigate the report of a car driven by a white male wearing a hood, that tried to run her over and is now in the library. The undersigned checked the area and the complainant and vehicle were gone upon arrival.

• Responded to an anonymous complaint of youths throwing ice balls at passing vehicles. Upon arrival, the undersigned canvassed the area to no avail.
