Northport Recognized For 8 Years Of No Pedestrian Fatalities

The Village was the recipient of AAA's Gold Award earlier this month.

The Village of Northport was the recent recipient of AAA’s Gold Award for their many traffic safety efforts during a luncheon on Oct. 5.

The Village's traffic safety efforts include education and enforcement to prevent distracted driving, DWI and other unsafe driving practices. AAA says Northport police make their presence known in the community in positive ways and the Village maintains engineering initiatives to promote a safer traffic flow.

The Village was also recognized with a special citation for having zero pedestrian fatalities for eight consecutive years.

AAA’s Annual Community Traffic Safety Awards Program recognizes communities for their efforts to make roadways safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Last year, Northport received a top Platinum Award.

At the ceremony, held at the Garden City Hotel, the local AAA affiliate presented a total of 58 awards. Northport’s award was presented to Lt. and Executive Officer Michael Cook.
