Northport Woman To Represent TeamUSA In Aquabike Event

A Northport resident will be competing in the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Multisport Championship in Denmark on Saturday, July 14.

Denise Tirino, 55, will compete for TeamUSA in the Aquabike event, a 3,000 meter swim and a 75 mile bike ride, in the 55-59 age group category.

“I’m beyond thrilled and honored to be representing this great country in a World Championship race," Tirino told Patch. "I’m doing something that both scares and challenges me at the same time and that to me is truly living."

Tirino has competed in this distance three times, but this will be her first international long course race.

She qualified for this event at Miamiman, a 1.2 mile swim and a 56 mile bike, last November.

Tirino started competing in triathlons at age 46. She is a Queens District Attorney’s office and is supported by her husband, Donald Bishop, and her 21-year-old twin boys.
