Seidman, a Great Neck resident, is a World War II veteran and a longtime hospital volunteer. He enlisted into the Army in 1941 and rose from the rank of US Army private to lieutenant.
Seidman has spent the past 23 years volunteering at both NSUH and Monter Cancer Center in New Hyde Park after a career in the garment industry.

About 100 American flags were waving in the wind at the hospital’s entrance during the Veterans Day flag ceremony. The event was sponsored by the NSUH Auxiliary, a volunteer group which raised $1,800 in flag donations. The donations were part of a pledged $2 million the group is in the process of raising to help toward a new neonatal intensive care unit.
Daniel Cataldo, a 16-year-old from Manhasset, closed the ceremony. The Boy Scout from Troop 71 brought the attendees to attention as he blared out the bugle call “Taps.”
