Obituary: John Michels, Northport FD Member And Longtime Teacher
Michels is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.

John E. Michels, of Northport, passed away on Saturday, March 10 at 74 years old.
Longtime teacher in the Huntington School District. Devoted Northport Fire Department Volunteer, Secretary, and Ex-Captain of the Rescue Squad. Served his country for many years in the Navy and Navy Reserves.
Loving husband of Faye M. (nee Kaylor) Michels. Beloved father of Jeannette P. Michels and Timothy J. (Marlene) Michels. Cherished grandfather of Delaney, Palmer, & Mckenna. Fond brother of Irene Dziedzic and the late James Michels.

Michels joined the Northport Department in August 1978 and was assigned to the Hook and Ladder company. He became and an Emergency Medical Technician in 1980 and provided medical care for the community for 28 years, up until 2008. He served as treasurer of the rescue squad, was elected first lieutenant and eventually advanced to the rank of captain from 1984 to 1986. He served the rescue squad as treasurer from 2012 to 201 and served as department secretary for 32 years from 1982 to 2014. Michels also received many awards for his outstanding service throughout the years.
Reposing at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, located at 5 Laurel Ave. in Northport, Tuesday, 2-5 & 7-9 PM. Funeral service Wednesday, 11 AM, at First Presbyterian Church of Northport. United States Naval Military Honors will be held at church.
