Police: E. Northport Woman Drove Drunk, Crashed Car With 10-Year-Old Son Inside

Incident occurred in Lake Success, police say.

An East Northport woman who crashed her car on the Northern State Parkway in Lake Success and fled the scene Friday was arrested and charged felony DWI, authorities said Monday.

New York State Police say the woman’s 10-year-old son was in the car at the time of the crash.

When troopers arrived at the accident scene near the Meadowbrook Parkway at about 5:12 p.m., the operator of a white van told them he was struck by a gray sedan that fled the scene. Troopers located the gray vehicle, a Honda, a short distance away from the accident, police said.

While interviewing the Honda’s driver, Erin Kelly Scheppy, 45, troopers detected signs of intoxication. Scheppy failed sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI, police said.

Scheppy was charged with aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and other traffic violations.
