Police Log: Needles Found Near School, Aggravated DWI Arrest

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Tuesday, April 24

At 10:58 a.m., police received a report of a Village Code violation in which someone was using a hose to pump water from a pool onto the street on Earl Avenue. The homeowner was issued a warning notice and the Village Administrator was notified.

At 11:31 p.m., police responded to a report of an intoxicated man lying on the road on Seaview Avenue. An officer located the man and escorted him home without incident.

Wednesday, April 25

At 8:36 a.m., police responded to a Grove Street location for a woman who ingested half a bottle of Nyquil. She was taken to Huntington Hospital for a medical and psychological evaluation.

Friday, April 27

At 8:36 a.m., police responded to Laurel Avenue School to investigate the activation of an automatic fire alarm. It was determined that the alarm was caused by an excessive dust condition.

Sunday, April 29

At 10:11 a.m., police responded to a report of sewage pouring out of a vent pipe, running through the yard and pooling on the property of Christian Science Church on Laurel Avenue. The Northport Sewer Department responded to the scene and cleared a clogged sewer line in the street.

At 11:11 a.m., police responded to the report of a child choking on Twin Cedar Lane. Police say the child spat out a button and was breathing normally.

At 8:55 p.m., police reported that a vehicle damaged a guard rail on Eaton's Neck Road and fled the scene.

Monday, April 30

At 10:15 a.m., a woman reported to police that she tripped over her own two feet yesterday, injuring her face and teeth, while walking in the parking lot on the 300-block of Fort Salonga Road. The property owner was notified of the incident.

Wednesday, May 2

At 8:50 a.m., police responded to a Clipper Drive location for the report of a group of people and numerous vehicles gathered on the street. The vehicles and people left the area prior to police arrival.

Thursday, May 3

At 9:53 a.m., police responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated man who walked into Cafe Portofino on Main Street. Police determined the man was just tired from doing manual labor.

Friday, May 4

At 10:31 a.m., Thomas Nosek, 60, of Greenlawn, was arrested for aggravated DWI after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Fort Salonga Road, police say. He was given a breath test and received a .18 percent BAC and was also found to be in possession of a stolen NY state plate, police say. He was additionally charged with improper lane use, no/expired inspection certificate, operating an unregistered vehicle on a highway, no/expired insurance, operating a motor vehicle with improper plates and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Saturday, May 5

At 5:04 p.m., police responded to Waterside Avenue for the report of a man driving recklessly on a dirt bike. Police could not locate the individual.

Sunday, May 6

At 4:52 p.m., police responded to a report of needles found in the woods near Ocean Avenue School. Officers disposed of the needles.
