Police: Peddling Ice Cream Truck, Frisbee Argument, Oil Spill

Monday, May 28

At 8 p.m., police reported a suspicious person near the marina on Malcoms Landing. Officers spoke to the man, who said he was fishing off the beach with his family members.

At 11:18 a.m., police responded to Rite Aid in Fort Salonga for the report of a woman who suffered injuries from a fall. The woman told police she fell testing out a folding chair inside the store. However, multiple witnesses say she was sitting on the arm of the chair, not the seat. The seat was not damaged. The woman was taken to Huntington Hospital via Northport Rescue.

At 11:38 a.m., police responded to Maroni Cuisine on Woodbine Avenue for the report of a large cooking oil spill that occurred in the street and alleyway between buildings. Northport Fire and Highway departments responded with sand and speedy dry to clean up the spill.

At 4:21 p.m., police reported a petty larceny in which someone entered an open garage on Hill Street and stole a circular saw and tool set valued at $200.

Saturday, June 2

At 10:25 a.m., police received a report of a dispute in which two women were sitting in Village Park when parents with about 20 children arrived and started playing frisbee. The women asked the children to not play frisbee so close to them, which caused an argument between them and the parents. At one point, a man suggested that the children move to another part of the park, which escalated the argument even more. Upon police arrival, the women decided to leave the park and the parents and children were advised that frisbee playing is not permitted in Village Park.

At 4:12 p.m., police received a report of an ice cream truck peddling ice cream without a permit at Steers Park. The truck was located on Fleet Court. Police issued a field appearance ticket for peddling ice cream without a Northport Village permit.

At 7:57 p.m., police received a report that someone wrote on a vehicle using lipstick on Scudder Avenue.

Sunday, June 3

At 1:16 p.m., police received a report of a missing ATM machine at Bank of America on Fort Salonga Road. It was determined the ATM was being repaired on sight at the bank.
